Attorneys for President Donald Trump on Tuesday filed an emergency application for a stay in the U.S. Supreme Court, asking the court to block enforcement of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.’s subpoena for his financial records until it has ruled on his petition for a writ of certiorari.

The Supreme Court “rarely denies review when a President seeks certiorari,” Trump’s attorney William Consovoy of Consovoy McCarthy wrote, arguing the court will likely agree to hear the case after judges in the Southern District of New York and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled to dismiss Trump’s argument that Vance’s subpoena was overbroad and issued in bad faith.
