Kean Miller, which has an office in Houston, now picks up an office in The Woodlands, led by partner James “Jimmy” Dupuis Jr., and an office in Lafayette, Louisiana, led by partner Kyle Polozola.
Blane Clark, Kean Miller’s managing partner, said in a statement that the two new offices strengthen the firm because Lafayette is the hub of the south Louisiana energy corridor, and The Woodlands, which is located north of Houston, is becoming more of a hub for corporate headquarters.
Clark, a partner in Baton Rouge, said the firm is always looking for opportunities, but expanding into The Woodlands especially made sense because Dupuis & Polozola lawyers do a considerable amount of transactional work for exploration and production companies.
“That gives us a missing piece. … We do a lot of work we can do for those clients,” he said.
Dupuis also noted that the work Dupuis & Polozola lawyers handle for energy clients is very complementary to Kean Miller’s practice.
“Kean Miller has strengths in the energy [business] focused on the midstream and downstream sectors. Our group does a lot of work for the upstream sector,” Dupuis said.
Dupuis & Polozola lawyers mostly do transactional work, although some of the lawyers, including Polozola, also handle litigation, Dupuis said. Clients range from large oil and gas companies to startups, and most of the firm’s clients are in the energy, oil and gas and petrochemical sectors.
Dupuis said he and Polozola started talking to Kean Miller about the possibility of joining the firms several months ago.
“Kyle and I knew, and Kean Miller knew early on, that this had a lot of potential,” Dupuis said.
Polozola said Kean Miller has a strong practice and is a “great corporate citizen, a great place to work.”
Dupuis and Polozola met as young lawyers at the Louisiana firm Liskow & Lewis and left there in 2010 to form Dupuis & Polozola in Lafayette. Because the firm was getting more work in Texas, Dupuis opened an office in The Woodlands in 2013 and expanded to 10 lawyers.
With the new group of lawyers, Kean Miller now has 161 lawyers in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Lafayette, Shreveport and Lake Charles in Louisiana, and in Houston and The Woodlands in Texas.
The Dupuis & Polozola lawyers joining Kean Miller as associates are Donald Ethridge, Ann Latimer, Steven Lombardo, Nathan Myers, Jack Searcy and Josiah Wheat Jr. in The Woodlands, and Mark Dore and Courtney Tate in Lafayette.
