Attorneys for author E. Jean Carroll on Tuesday urged U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan of the Southern District of New York to reject former President Donald Trump’s motion for a new trial, arguing that the $83.3 million verdict awarded in January was reasonable and not excessive.

Led by Roberta Kaplan of Kaplan Hecker & Fink, Carroll’s attorneys argued the judge, Kaplan, appropriately limited Trump’s testimony after Carroll raised concerns that Trump would imply he did not sexually abuse Carroll—an issue resolved at the 2023 trial involving the same parties.
