A state legislative fiscal committee on Thursday gutted key provisions of a bill that would have permanently allowed witnesses in civil cases to testify remotely.
Remote testimony is currently allowed under an emergency pandemic order aimed at reducing the number of people who enter California’s courthouses. But that order is temporary, and the practice must end 90 days after the governor lifts the COVID-19 state of emergency.
