The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Tuesday heard oral arguments on a motion for bail pending appeal filed by Ukrainian-born American businessman Andrey Kukushkin, who was convicted of campaign finance violations alongside former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s ex-associate Lev Parnas in October.

Kukushkin was sentenced in March to one year and one day in prison, and his surrender date is currently set for July 1. His appointed attorney, Clifford Chance partner Celeste Koeleveld, argued that Kukushkin should be granted bail because he will raise several substantial questions in his appeal.
