Federal prosecutors in Manhattan have unveiled criminal charges for a Russian oligarch who put up $1 million as part of a scheme to funnel foreign money into U.S. political campaigns during the 2018 election with the aim of acquiring retail licenses to sell cannabis.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams of the Southern District of New York announced on Monday that his office has filed a superseding indictment that names Russian tycoon Andrey Muraviev as a codefendant in the campaign finance violation case that has resulted in convictions for Lev Parnas, an ex-associate of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani; and Andrey Kukushkin, a Ukrainian-born American businessman.
