The Georgia Court of Appeals unanimously upheld a $22 million wrongful death verdict out of east Georgia’s Greene County, part of a total $28.5 million judgment that also included attorney fees.

The defendant-appellant, a resort called Durhamtown, asked the Court of Appeals to reverse motions for new trial and directed verdict previously denied by the trial court. The intermediate court was not convinced but offered an in-depth analysis of why the trial court was right to pierce the corporate veil.
