Philadelphia has sued Wells Fargo, alleging the bank violated the Fair Housing Act by targeting minority borrowers with high-risk and high-interest loans. The lawsuit is the first that a city has lodged against a financial institution since a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling established that municipalities have standing to sue banks over allegedly discriminatory lending practices.

A former Office of Attorney General agent's defamation claims against ex-Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane will not be revived, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled Tuesday. The court let stand a ruling that Kane was protected by absolute immunity when she made allegedly false statements that a corruption investigation she shut down in 2013 was racially motivated.

A proposal is in the works to revise and possibly raise court filing fees at the First Judicial District. Although details are scarce, the court is expecting that the proposal will include at least a 10 percent increase on a base fee to cover costs of potentially increasing fee amounts for conflict-counsel attorneys.
