With guns in the news practically every day, more and more states are looking at what can be done to be more proactive when it comes to gun violence–a topic sure to be front and center in the new Biden administration.

New Jersey is an excellent example of a state that has tried to do a lot over the past two years. They have an act called the Extreme Risk Protective Order Act of 2018 (ERPO Act), N.J.S.A 2C:58-20 to 32. ERPOs fall into a broader category of laws known as risk-based gun removal laws or “red flag laws.”
