Washington Hospital to Pay $10 Million for Failure to Detect Jaundice

A Seattle jury awarded 4-year-old Nathaniel Johns $10 million for brain damage he sustained after being released from St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, Wash. after birth. Johns' parents brought the newborn back to the hospital because of his severe jaundice. The child's estate charges the brain damage was caused by the hospital's failure to diagnose and treat high bilirubin levels in his blood until it was too late.
