Hearst Players Exchange Testy Letters

A federal judge in San Francisco made public two letters highlighting a spat he is having with Assistant U.S. Attorney General Joel Klein over the recent Hearst antitrust suit. Klein fired the first missive, saying Judge Vaughn Walker's allegations of cronyism on the part of DOJ were a hit below the belt. The judge fired back that Klein had "misread portions of the opinion."

Digital media management software maker Cinebase Inc. was founded in L.A., but in 1996, just two years after starting, the company was forced to open an office in Northern California. The reason? Experienced Silicon Valley engineers refused to move south, leaving the company with no choice but to open a San Francisco Bay Area satellite office. But there's been a shift. The company's L.A. office has nearly doubled in size while the Northern office remains static, and that's just the tip of the trend.
