Fined Lawyer Claims to Be 'Victim' of Novel Court Program
In 1991, attorney Thomas Riordan took part in a novel California Supreme Court program that assigned civil lawyers to capital cases in hopes of reducing a backlog. Riordan floundered, and the court held him in contempt and fined him. He will face more repercussions when he goes before the State Bar Court to defend himself against charges he performed incompetently.
