SAN FRANCISCO Dylan Carp, an associate with the San Francisco office of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham, was named Lawyer of the Year by the Compliance Reporter’s Achievement in Regulatory Compliance Awards program. He was recognized for his securities enforcement work in WHX Corp. v. SEC. Michael Bernick has joined Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold as special counsel. Bernick, who was formerly director of the California Employment Development Department, is a 1979 graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law. Littler Mendelson has added two new associates to its San Francisco office. Laura Hayward comes to the firm from Latham & Watkins. She received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1999. Jody Willson was formerly with Keesal, Young & Logan. She graduated from UC Davis’ King Hall School of Law in 2000. Robert Cutbirth has joined Tucker Ellis & West as counsel in the firm’s trial department. He received his J.D. from McGeorge School of Law at University of the Pacific in 1987. Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman Chair Mary Cranston was named one of the five winners of the 2005 Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award. The award honors women lawyers who have achieved excellence in their area of expertise and have paved the way to success for other women lawyers. Cranston is a graduate of Stanford Law School. SOUTH BAY Douglas Limbach has joined Greenberg Traurig as of counsel. He will work with the firm’s intellectual property counseling and litigation practice in the firm’s East Palo Alto office. A former senior patent counsel for FormFactor Inc., he graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA D. Wayne Jeffries has joined Alschuler Grossman Stein & Kahan as a partner in the insurance and reinsurance practice group in Santa Monica. Jeffries, who was formerly with Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, graduated from Hastings College of the Law in 1973. Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps has added Bernardo Coindreau to its San Diego office. Coindreau has extensive experience in real estate, debt financing and mergers and acquisitions. He received his LL.M. from New York University School of Law. Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmaro has added two partners to its Los Angeles office. Melvin Avanzado comes to the firm from White O’Connor Curry & Avanzado, where he was a founding partner. He is joining Jeffer, Mangel’s litigation practice. John McKay is joining the firm’s sports law group. A former player for USC and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, McKay also has more than 20 years of real estate experience.
