GM Agrees to Pay Dealers 'Hundreds of Millions'

General Motors agreed to settle three class actions brought by dealers in Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Mississippi who complained that a 1 percent surcharge to pay for advertising violated state laws. GM will reimburse all of its dealers nationwide $4 for every car sold since 1990, and will pay $7.75 million to the lawyers who brought the cases. Plaintiffs' lawyers had requested total fees of $19.89 million, plus expenses, but were rejected without comment by a Minnesota federal judge.
