Previous appellate rulings had invoked strict privity to block estate planning malpractice suits against attorneys brought by the personal representatives of estates, their beneficiaries or other third parties. One attorney not involved in the case said the ruling will likely cause professional liability insurance premiums "to go up for everybody."
