Firms Pump Up Salaries

There's generally more money to be had by first-year associates, but there's no greater number of rookies grabbing that cash as hiring numbers were fairly flat among Connecticut's largest law firms compared to last year. A snapshot of the legal market indicates that entry level lawyer salaries jumped about 9 percent over the past 12 months, with some local outposts of national firms dramatically increasing starting salaries to $160,000.

Abuse trial nets plaintiff $580K

Following a four-day trial in which he represented himself, a man sued over beating and kicking his ex-wife in front of their two small children has been ordered by a Fulton County jury to pay $580,000. Plaintiffs lawyer Keegan Federal, above, said he was concerned the jury could find sympathy for a defendant without a lawyer, but the judge gave the man plenty of guidance. Also included, a woman wins nearly $60,000 in a Publix accident.
