Governor Nathan Deal's Judicial Nominating Commission received 75 names of judges and lawyers to replace retiring Judge A. Harris Adams, a huge number compared with recent open seats. The nominees include, clockwise from top left: Judge Trip Self, litigator Mary Paige Adams, prosecutor Don Geary, Judge Benjamin Studdard, Judge Todd Markle and litigator Ken Shigley. Deval L. Patrick, former GC of The Coca-Cola Co., is on his way to a career change: On Tuesday he won the Democratic primary for governor of Massachusetts, besting venture capitalist Christopher Gabrieli and state AG Thomas Reilly. On Nov. 7, Patrick faces off against Republican Lt. Gov. Kerry Murphy Healey. Whoever wins, the Healey-Patrick race will make history. If Healey wins, she will become the first woman elected to that post. If Patrick wins, he will become the first black governor of Massachusetts.
