Artful lies, trusting co-workers and lax bank procedures allowed law firm Galasso Langione & Botter's long-time bookkeeper to loot a client's escrow account of more than $4.3 million, according to court documents and the bookkeeper's brother, who's a firm partner. Now the firm is suing its two former banks, its former accountant, and the alleged embezzler, who has pleaded not guilty to 22 charges. The case highlights the fact that law firms may be as vulnerable to employee thefts as other businesses.
