The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit in federal court Wednesday demanding information about a Defense Department database that tracked anti-war groups and U.S. citizens. The suit charges the Pentagon with violating freedom of information laws by refusing to answer questions about the database, which is part of an anti-terrorism initiative. House Democrats, with help from 82 Republicans, overwhelmingly passed legislation Wednesday that would eventually lift the minimum wage by $2.10 an hour, the first increase in a decade. The legislation moves to the Senate, where Democrats intend to add billions of dollars in tax breaks to make it easier for business to swallow. "Let us raise the minimum wage. Let us help small businesses cope," said Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont, helping craft tax breaks aimed at businesses that hire low income workers.
