The lawsuit alleges the 11 partners participated in a premeditated defection and breach of fiduciary duty. Duane Morris partner Gene Pratter denies the allegations and said the 11 defectors acted honorably at all times during the transition period.

Mobilizing Around A Grudge

A number of South Floridians support a movement promoted by Ron Bibace, a retired CPA who believes lawyers shouldn't be allowed to hold executive or legislative office. Lawyers are members of the state bar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the state Supreme Court. Bibace believes their involvement in other branches violates the constitutional doctrine that requires powers to be clearly split. "Lawyers have taken over the courts, and they are taking over the executive and legislative branches," he says.
