Olajide Araromi, an attorney with Chiesa, Shahinian & Giantomasi in West Orange, has been appointed the Garden State Bar Association’s representative on the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Model Criminal Jury Charges for the term Dec. 12, 2017, through Aug. 31, 2019. Araromi has served as a regional director for the association since 2014. GSBA is New Jersey’s oldest and largest professional organization to assist African-Americans and other ethnic minorities in becoming an effective part of the judicial and legal systems, the organization said.

Cohn, Lifland, Pearlman, Herrmann & Knopf took part in the Bergen Volunteer Center’s “All Wrapped Up” holiday gift-giving program. Attorneys and staff purchased and wrapped dozens of gifts to support families who are clients of the Bergen County Head Start program in Bergenfield and the Department of Child Protection and Permanency in Hackensack.

The Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey (HBA-NJ) held its 38th annual installation and swearing-in ceremony of its officers and trustees at the Stone House at Stirling Ridge in Warren, on Nov. 9, 2017. Jose L. Linares, chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, swore in the officers and trustees. Hector D. Ruiz, a partner at Walsh Pizzi O’Reilly Falanga, was sworn in as the HBA-NJ’s 38th president. Carlos M. Bollar, a partner at Archer & Greiner and a past president of the HBA-NJ, served as the master of ceremonies of the event, which was well attended by federal and state court judges, attorneys, and law and high school students. Arlene Quiñones Perez, a partner at DeCotiis, FitzPatrick Cole & Giblin, and immediate past president of the HBA-NJ, and Pedro J. Torres-Díaz, a principal in the San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Miami offices of Jackson Lewis, and immediate past president of the Hispanic National Bar Association (“HNBA”), made remarks. The HBA-NJ also recognized longtime officer, Vice President of the Southern Region Albertina Webb, a partner with LaRocca Hornik Rosen Greenberg & Patti, with the “Corazon Del HBA-NJ Award” for her outstanding dedication and unwavering service to the organization. The dinner and program concluded with Ruiz’s president’s speech, during which he announced this year’s theme for the HBA-NJ: ”Working Together, Making a Difference.” Union City High School students that regularly participate in the HBA-NJ’s American Dream Pipeline Program also attended the event with their chaperone. During the event, guests were encouraged to contribute to the “Todos Unidos” fundraising campaign to aid in natural disaster relief. This campaign will continue throughout the year for distribution to Puerto Rico, Mexico and other areas in need of disaster relief, the organization said.
