U.S. District Judge Peter Sheridan of the District of New Jersey has been asked to recuse himself from a case over a potential conflict related to the deaths of his brother—former Cooper University Health System CEO John P. Sheridan Jr.—and sister-in-law.

The plaintiff in a wage-and-hour suit, Atanassov v. AmSpec Services, sought Peter Sheridan’s recusal because the defendant in that case is represented by Genova Burns of Newark. At the same time, according to the plaintiffs’ lawyer in that case, Genova Burns represents the four sons of John and Joyce Sheridan in a dispute with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Office of the State Medical Examiner over the cause of the couple’s deaths.
