Legislators are pushing a bill that would allow crime victims and their families to compel the defendant to face them in court at the time of sentencing.
The measure, A-4118, would vest a right to make a pre-sentencing statement "directly to the defendant concerning the impact of the crime, unless the court finds good cause why the defendant should not be present."
