It is no surprise that the population is aging. As but one illustration of this trend, in 2010, just under 2 percent of the U.S. population was age 85 and over. By 2050 that number is anticipated to increase to 4.3 percent, or over 19 million people, 6.2 million of whom have severe or moderate memory impairment.
These trends have profound implications to estate planners that extend far beyond the issues of Medicaid planning.In particular, the process of meeting with clients facing these challenges must be modified to better serve them.
