Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the fastest growing industries in the world and its effects are being felt across various sectors including the construction industry. AI’s roots can be traced to the 1950s but its presence in our everyday lives and in various industries is still a relatively new phenomenon. There are still looming questions about AI, some as seemingly simple as “what is AI?” to those as complex as “what are the limits of what AI can do?” Those in the construction industry have begun asking their own questions about what AI can do to help managers at various phases of construction projects and where construction managers should draw the line on AI and have human workers take over. As the financial margins on construction projects are tighter than ever before, one would think the use of AI on construction projects could increase profitability and overall production. However, there are still instances where human guidance and control on construction projects are the keys to success.

This article will serve as a brief overview of the large impact, in just a short amount of time, that AI has had on the construction industry along with a discussion of the pros and cons of the increased use of AI on such projects.
