A New Jersey district court judge sided with CoreCivic, a national operator of detention facilities, and held that a New Jersey law preventing the company from contracting with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is unconstitutional as applied.

New Jersey Assembly bill 5207, passed in August 2021, prohibited the state and its political subdivisions, as well as private entities, from prospectively contracting to own or operate any facility that detains individuals for violating civil immigration laws, according to the opinion.
