After a recent eight-day trial that featured both in-court and virtual testimony, an Essex County jury awarded $1 million to a laborer who fell from an elementary-school rooftop while working in allegedly unsafe working conditions on a roof tear-down job, according to his lawyers.

The trial ran from Feb. 28 to March 9 before Superior Court Judge Robert Gardner. The jury watched and listened over video feed for the entire trial, said the laborer’s attorneys at the personal injury firm Ginarte Gallardo Gonzalez & Winograd, based in Newark.
