Recently retired New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Faustino Fernandez-Vina has joined New Jersey law firm Parker McCay, a move that he says allows him to mentor younger litigators as someone who had a very active career as a trial lawyer before he ever put on a judge’s robe.

Fernandez-Vina, who joined the southern New Jersey firm as special counsel as of Tuesday, and who will practice in its main office in Mount Laurel and its Camden office, is barred from litigating himself, as a former justice—which, he allows, is “only fair.” Even so, he doesn’t plan on launching an arbitration and mediation practice as many former jurists do, he said in an interview Wednesday.
