A New Jersey law firm has been accused of collecting excessive fees in connection with a $358 million settlement of multidistrict litigation over side effects from the blood pressure drug Benicar.

The new lawsuit claims Mazie, Slater, Katz & Freeman of Roseland and name partners David Mazie and Adam Slater overcharged the firm’s 200 clients in the Benicar litigation. Filed Wednesday in Essex County Superior Court, the complaint says Slater was co-lead counsel for the plaintiffs and a member of the plaintiffs’ executive committee, as well as the leadership committee and the fee split committee that decided the allocation of fees and costs paid to leadership firms.
