The District of New Jersey has 17 authorized federal district court judgeships, more than one-third of which, as of this writing, remain unfilled. In a district that regularly ranks among the busiest in the country, the time has come for these vacancies to be filled, and we have every bit of confidence that the new administration will do just that. That got us thinking: what qualities do young lawyers seek in federal judges? Here is some of what we came up with:

Federal Judges Should Be Respected and Experienced Members of the Bar

Federal judges play a tremendously important role in the justice system and adjudicate matters of great significance to the litigants that appear before them. For that reason, federal judges must be trusted by the community they serve. To garner such trust, candidates for judgeships should have adequate legal experience and be respected members of the bar.
