A recent ethics rule change that loosened restrictions on law firm trade names in New Jersey grabbed the attention of many in the legal profession, but it remains unclear whether the effect isn’t more academic than practical.
RPC 7.5 previously allowed trade names, but required that a name of a lawyer in the firm be included in the name. The Sept. 10-announced revision to RPC 7.5 eliminated that requirement.
