Also, in a deal worth $4.6 billion in cash and stock, Vulcan Materials Co. has agreed to buy Rock Industries. The companies distribute gravel and sand for use in highway construction.

Johnson & Johnson has agreed to acquire the consumer health-care products unit of Pfizer Inc. in a cash deal valued at $16.6 billion. The deal will allow Johnson & Johnson to expand its consumer products presence. Also, the Kerr-McGee Corp., one of the largest independent oil and natural gas exploration companies in the United States, was acquired by Anadarko Petroleum Corp. in a deal worth approximately $18 billion.
