RIVERHEAD – State Supreme Court Justice Robert W. Doyle has found invalid a Suffolk County law that waived penalties and interest on some late property tax payments, finding the County Legislature exceeded its authority by enacting it.
Those waivers cost the county about $110,000 in legal fees and at least $400,000 more in lost revenue, according to County Comptroller Joseph R. Caputo.
