The International Military Tribunal sitting at Nuremberg, Germany, commencing on Nov. 20, 1945, was the first trial in history for crimes against the peace of the world. Its relevance is heightened by the era of terrorism in which we live and by President George W. Bush’s call for a similar tribunal to consider the acts of the perpetrators of the Sept. 11 terrorist crimes.

The President’s call and the global reactions to it, extending to terrorists activities beyond Sept. 11, demand an analysis and understanding of the historic post-World War II trial which lasted for 11 months.
