The state has reached a record $40 million settlement with an Alabama-based investment firm over whistleblower allegations that millions of dollars in taxes on performance income from a New York-based hedge fund sponsored by the firm were never paid.
In a statement Tuesday, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman called the actions of Harbert Management Corp. a “brazen and deliberate decision to avoid paying millions in taxes owed to New York state.”
