An appellate panel on Tuesday questioned whether former Gov. Eliot Spitzer inaccurately characterized one-time American International Group chairman and CEO Maurice “Hank” Greenberg as a criminal in public statements.
Spitzer is appealing a 2014 decision by Supreme Court Justice Lewis Lubell, sitting in Putnam County, preserving Greenberg’s claims that Spitzer defamed him by publicly stating he was guilty of fraudulent accounting practices, that the U.S. Department of Justice had charged him with wrongdoing and that he had neglected his duties as a member of the New York Stock Exchange Board of Directors.
