Rather than establish a new office to handle claims of prosecutorial misconduct, courts should ensure that allegations of misconduct are referred to existing appellate division disciplinary committees, the Commission on Statewide Attorney Discipline recommended in a report released Friday.

The committee also recommended that there be a statewide coordinator of attorney discipline to oversee uniform standards in all four appellate division departments, who would have the responsibility to produce an annual report on the number of complaints of prosecutorial misconduct received and how the complaints were adjudicated.
