With the 2015 regular legislative session history, James Yates said he will be stepping down as counsel to the state Assembly’s speaker and the chamber’s Democratic majority.

Yates, 68, attended the final news conference of the session last week at the Capitol hours before the Assembly and Senate concluded passing the final bills of a tumultuous session which saw both former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan, and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, R-Rockville Centre, resign their leadershp posts after being indicted on corruption charges by the Southern District U.S. Attorney’s office.
