• John Mendez has been nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as the newest chairman of the board of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC), which maintains a special reserve fund authorized by Congress to help investors at failed brokerage firms. Mendez is a partner in the New York and Los Angeles offices of Latham & Watkins.
• The International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution has added to its board of directors Kelly Mahon Tullier, executive vice president and general counsel at Visa Inc.; and Luke Mette, deputy general counsel-litigation at AstraZeneca. In addition, the institute honored United Technologies Corp. and Charles Gill, the company’s general counsel, at its 2014 corporate leadership award dinner.
