Nassau County lawmakers have approved borrowing of $72 million to fund the first phase of a building plan that will bring the Nassau County Family Court to Mineola from its current Westbury site.

In a 15-0 vote on Dec. 19, the County Legislature agreed to the bond authorization for a plan to renovate and enlarge the former Social Services building in Mineola to create a facility that will house a combined Family Court/Matrimonial Center and the county’s Integrated Domestic Violence Court. In all, the project is estimated to cost $168 million.
