A community court in an old schoolhouse by the Brooklyn waterfront has managed to curb recidivism, taxpayer money and gain respect from local residents, a new study has concluded.

The first independent evaluation of the 13-year-old Red Hook Community Justice Center shows that the court has hit “a home run” with its problem-solving approach, said Greg Berman, director of the Center for Court Innovation, which assisted in the initial planning of the court and now oversees its range of services, training and counseling options.
