Revelations of jury tampering have prompted a federal judge to order a new trial in a high-profile criminal case for a Long Island dealer of untaxed cigarettes who was convicted of racketeering.

Eastern District Judge Denis Hurley (See Profile), sitting in Central Islip, ruled on Wednesday that Rodney Morrison had to be retried for his 2008 convictions after hearing testimony of a bribe purportedly extended to the foreperson from someone he thought was Morrison’s son.
