Two law firms on Monday announced key hires of former top officials in the federal government. Jones Day has brought on Heidi Wendel as a partner in the firm’s health care and life sciences practices in New York. Wendel was most recently an assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District, and for the past three years, has served as chief of the civil frauds unit, which investigates and prosecutes fraud in health care, mortgage, pharmaceutical and banking industries. Wendel had also served as director of the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit at the New York Attorney General’s Office.

Meanwhile, Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler announced that Deirdre McEvoy is joining as counsel in its white-collar defense and investigations team. She most recently served as chief of the New York Field Office of the U.S. Justice Department’s Antitrust Division, where she managed a team of 25 prosecutors who handled criminal antitrust enforcement matters, focusing on cartel and other fraudulent conduct in financial markets. McEvoy also served as an assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District.
