A Queens attorney who was found guilty of participating in a mortgage fraud scheme has been disbarred as a result of his felony convictions. The Appellate Division, Second Department, on Wednesday disbarred Aaron Rabinowitz of Burstein & Rabinowitz in Forest Hills after he was found guilty by a federal jury of participating with others in a mortgage fraud scam that raked in over $25 million during more than nine years.

In the July 2012 Eastern District jury verdict, Rabinowitz and his partner, Matthew Burstein, were each convicted of 10 felony counts, including conspiracy to commit bank fraud and wire fraud (NYLJ, July 31, 2012). The pair moved for a new trial in United States v. Burstein, 10-cr-623, and a motion is pending. No sentencing date has yet been scheduled for Rabinowitz.
