Analisa Torres has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the Southern District bench. Torres, a 1984 graduate of Columbia Law School, served in Civil Court from 2003 to 2004. She was named an acting Supreme Court justice in the Bronx in 2004 and moved to Manhattan Supreme in 2010. She was nominated by President Barack Obama to Southern District bench just days after winning election to the Supreme Court on Nov. 6, 2012. Torres, who fills the vacancy created by the decision of Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald (See Profile) to take senior status, was confirmed by a voice vote on April 18.

Her confirmation leaves four vacancies on the Southern District bench, with three nominees pending: Justice Nelson Roman of the Appellate Division, First Department (See Profile); Valerie Caproni, deputy general counsel at Northrup Grumman; and Vernon Broderick, a litigation partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges. There also is one Western District vacancy, with no nominee.
