A candidate running for Brooklyn district attorney wants the airing of a recently announced reality series about the office under District Attorney Charles Hynes postponed until after the September primary because the "de facto infomercial" would violate campaign finance laws.

On the heels of CBS’ announcement that it would air starting May 21 a six-part series called "Brooklyn DA," showing how prosecutors in Hynes’ office build and try cases, Abraham George, who is looking to unseat Hynes, sent what he calls a "cease and desist" letter yesterday to CBS president and CEO Leslie Moonves. The letter said the show would be aired "during the critical final months of an intensely contested campaign" and would violate state campaign finance laws "by unlawfully contributing money and services (in the form of a de facto infomercial, for instance)" to Hynes beyond the permissible $5,000 limit for corporate contributions.
