Despite its member demographics, the Senior Lawyer Section of the New York State Bar Association is one of the youngest sections of NYSBA. The section was established approximately four years ago to serve the needs and interests of the members of our profession, whether actively engaged in practice or retired, whatever their area of practice, size of their firm or office, or geographic location, who are 55 years of age or older.

A review of the profile of NYSBA members reveals that more than one-third of NYSBA’s members are 55 years of age or older. Another 17 percent, also part of the baby boomer generation, are in the 46- to 55-year-old category, and soon to be eligible for membership in the Senior Lawyer Section. Given this data, it is not surprising that the section has continued to grow at a pace that is outstanding for a section that is just about four years old.
