The commission screening candidates for the opening on the Court of Appeals created by the death of Theodore Jones Jr. has extended the application deadline by three days. The Commission on Judicial Nomination said the deadline to receive applications electronically or by hand delivery has been moved to Friday, Dec. 21. Applications can be emailed to [email protected] or by mail or hand delivery to the attention of Stephen Younger, Commission on Judicial Nomination, 1133 Avenue of the Americas, New York, N.Y. 10036. Applications are posted at www.nysegov.com/cjn/.

Younger, a partner at Patterson, Belknap Webb & Tyler who is counsel to the commission, said the panel wants to give candidates a few more days to apply because the application period falls during the holidays. On March 7, the commission will submit a list of three to seven candidates to Governor Andrew Cuomo, who must select a nominee from that list. The governor now has before him a list of candidates sent earlier this month for an opening that will be created on Dec. 31 with the retirement of Judge Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick (See Profile).
