Morrison & Foerster yesterday announced the election of Larren Nashelsky as its new chair, succeeding longtime leader Keith Wetmore. The 1,000-lawyer firm said Wetmore will complete his fourth three-year term in October, when Nashelsky, co-chair of the firm’s bankruptcy and restructuring practice, steps into the position.

Nashelsky, 45, joined Morrison & Foerster from Weil Gotshal & Manges in 1999, when the firm had only a handful of partners in the bankruptcy practice. Today, the practice has about 40 lawyers, including 25 in New York, he said. The firm is lead counsel to Residential Capital and its subsidiaries, and to Louis Freeh, Chapter 11 trustee for MF Global.
