When 750 would-be lawyers sit for the Arizona bar examination on July 24, they’ll have an opportunity to do something their predecessors couldn’t: Seamlessly transfer into six other jurisdictions without having to take another bar exam. For the first time, Arizona will administer the Uniform Bar Exam—a test designed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners to standardize the exam process and allow test takers to transfer their scores across state lines.

However, about 12,000 candidates applying for admission to the New York bar will still face a home-grown examination on July 21.
